Default Steps Per Millimeter

Setting the correct steps/mm is an important calibration step, as it defines the scale of objects that you print. If your objects are coming out too small or too large, or if the printer seems to be extruding too much or too little plastic, the steps/mm probably need calibrated or configured.

Settings for each printer are provided below as M92 gcode, so you copy and paste the correct settings to your printer.

Note: For perfect prints, Printrbot recommends calibrating the extruder, as well as bots using vinyl tubing & sandpaper pulleys with fishing line. GT2 and XL belts shouldn't need calibration.

Note: All Printrbot models use 1.8 degree motors and 1/16 stepper drivers. 

Applying Settings

1. Connect to your printer and locate the G-Code field in your host software.

2. Find the Steps per Millimeter for your printer in the table below, and paste it into the G-Code field in your host software. Press enter or click Send to apply it.

3. Save the new settings to the Printrboard by typing M500 and pressing enter or clicking Send.

Note: If you unplug the Printrboard before running this command, the new settings won't be saved.

4. Verify that the settings have been saved by typing M501 and pressing enter or clicking Send.

    What is the tolerance for the Printerbot Simple Extruder?

    For example, if I am aiming to extrude 10cm of filament, what range of values can I expect to be within tolerance?
